KisMAC is a free stumbler application for MacOS X, that puts your card into the monitor mode. Unlike most other applications for OS X it has the ability to run completely invisible and send no probe requests.
KisMac is a great tool. I like to use it to test wireless networks. After some months of usage, my KisMac installation stop working. After inserting the administrative password, an error message popup: “Could not load Monitor Mode for Airport Extreme. Drivers were not found. etc…”.
Damn! This problem is really annoying, I have found on the net many suggestions to fix this error, but none have worked with my G4 ibook.
After some tests, I have found a workaround:
1) – boot OSX
2) – login and disable the Airport card
3) – restart the system and launch KisMac
OSX will remember that you have disabled the WIFI card, so the wireless driver will not be loaded and KisMac can load its own drivers correctly.

you can load and unload network drivers using kextload and kextunload. List your currently loaded kexts using kextstat. This may save you some time as you probably won’t have to reboot.
